Symposium on Green Artificial Intelligence

Symposium on Green Artificial Intelligence

25 and 26 November 2025 - CITIC, A Coruña

The Green Artificial Intelligence Symposium is an initiative promoted by the Inditex-UDC Chair in Green Algorithms that will be held on 25 and 26 November 2025 at the CITIC of the University of A Coruña. The event will be held in hybrid mode, with face-to-face sessions in A Coruña and virtual access for remote participants.

The symposium aims to create a meeting point for the research community, the business sector and institutions to address the current challenges of Artificial Intelligence from a perspective of sustainability and environmental commitment.

Climate change affects our societies in a transversal way, and computational activity -including AI models and data centres- is already a significant source of greenhouse gas emissions. Faced with this challenge, the Chair proposes a multidisciplinary and cooperative approach to advance towards more sustainable algorithms, energy-efficient models and applications that actively contribute to the fight against the climate crisis.

Invited conferences

The symposium will feature internationally prominent speakers who will provide a critical and multidisciplinary view on the challenges and opportunities of AI in sustainable development.

  • Aimee van Wynsberghe. Alexander von Humboldt Professor of Applied Ethics in Artificial Intelligence, director of the Institute for Science and Ethics (University of Bonn) and founder of the Bonn Sustainable AI Lab.
  • Lorenzo Cotino Hueso. President of the Spanish Data Protection Agency and Professor of Constitutional Law at the University of Valencia.
  • Mar Santamaria-Varas. Architect and co-founder of 300.000 Km/s, specialising in urban planning, public policy and sustainability.
  • Ana Valdivia. Professor and researcher in Artificial Intelligence (AI), Governance and Policy at the Oxford Internet Institute (OII).

Contributions

The symposium opens its call for contributions for researchers, practitioners and students interested in exploring the potential of AI for sustainability.

Contributions will be accepted in oral communication or poster format, with a maximum length of 2 pages, including references. Research proposals, technical developments, practical applications and ethical or social reflections are welcome.

Those interested in participating should send an abstract of a maximum of 800 characters, indicating the thematic area of their work, using the form that will be available soon. Proposals written in Galician, Spanish or English will be accepted.

Each proposal will be evaluated by two members of the Scientific Committee, who will assess its quality and thematic suitability, and will propose its presentation mode: oral communication or poster. The possibility of rejecting proposals that do not fit in with the focus of the symposium will also be considered.

Successful applicants must submit a paper of no more than 2 pages in length, including references. Detailed instructions for the preparation of papers will be published after notification of acceptance.

Both oral communications and posters may be presented in any of the official languages of the symposium: Galician, Spanish or English.

Priority will be given to proposals aligned with the research lines of the Chair, which include:

  • Energy efficient algorithms: Low resolution, HPC, edge computing, federated learning, quantum computing, compact data structures, efficient PLN.
  • AI for energy efficiency and sustainability: Mobility, smart buildings, simulation of social behaviour, circular economy, application of AI in strategic sectors.
  • Sustainable robotics: environmental interaction, green production, efficiency in hardware and embedded software.
  • Ethical, social and economic implications of green algorithms: Impact assessment, algorithmic governance, justice and sustainability from AI.
