The Expert Course in Artificial Intelligence and Green Algorithms aims to train professionals capable of leading the transition towards a more ethical and sustainable technology. In a context where AI plays an increasingly relevant role, this course is located at the intersection between innovation, sustainability and social responsibility. Through master classes, practical workshops and real projects, students will acquire cutting-edge knowledge in green AI, efficient computing and the development of technological solutions with positive impact. Among the course activities, the development of teams working on a service-learning project in collaboration with companies stands out.
The training will be given by an interdisciplinary teaching team that combines research staff from the University of A Coruña with specialists from leading companies in the technology sector and from other universities.
Minimum access requirements
- University education in areas related to ICT or engineering
Knowledge of programmingHave completed baccalaureate, BUP, FPII or Higher Vocational Training. - Knowledge of coding.
Objectives
The main objective of the course is to train students in the design, development and evaluation of sustainable artificial intelligence technologies, considering energy, social and environmental criteria. Specifically, it seeks to:
- Provide solid knowledge on the fundamentals, techniques and tools of Green AI.
- Train in the creation of AI algorithms and systems that optimize energy consumption and minimize carbon footprint.
- Develop competencies to apply green computing practices in real environments.
- Encourage innovation in sustainable AI projects, from design to evaluation.
- Promote ethical and critical reflection on the impact of AI technologies on society and the environment.
- Promote interdisciplinary teamwork skills and effective communication.

- Fundamentals of Machine Learning and Computational Sustainability
Introduction to machine learning: definitions, types of learning, and main applications. Fundamentals of sustainability in computational infrastructure. Key technologies for computational efficiency: natural language processing, optimized data structures, federated learning, high-performance computing (HPC), and quantum computing. Optimization methods to reduce energy consumption and promote responsible use of computational resources.
- Ethical Design and Sustainable Applications of Artificial Intelligence
Development of sustainability-oriented AI solutions. Applications in sustainable robotics, energy efficiency, and smart building design. Ethical principles in the development of green AI technologies. International regulatory framework and best practices for responsible implementation. Analysis of practical cases and evaluation of business models committed to sustainable and socially responsible technological development.
- Green AI Projects and Applications
Design and development of service-learning projects applied to green AI. Project management methodologies and collaborative work tools. Evaluation of the feasibility and impact of the proposed solutions. Practical applications in key sectors: the circular economy, renewable energy, sustainable mobility, among others. Presentation and defense of final projects before teachers and professionals specializing in AI and sustainability.
